HIV/AIDS Program
Another area in which FIOH - USA focuses it's fund raising efforts is to provide education regarding prevention and treatment of the many diseases prevalent in countries that are economically underdeveloped. In Kenya, FIOH - USA's main focus has been HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. FIOH - USA has donated a public address system to FIOH - Kenya for use when giving HIV/AIDS awareness presentations.
HIV/AIDS transportation program
Under this program patients diagnosed with HIV/AIDS receive $7.50 each month for their transport to the facilities that give them anti-retroviral medication. The drugs have become available for free to residents of Nyanza Province since 2006. However, many individuals live far from the hospitals or clinics and cannot afford transportation to the facility to obtain the drugs. If any money is left over after traveling to obtain the drugs, it is used for additional medical costs such as to treat opportunistic infections. By providing this small monthly amount of money, many patients have improved and are now able to go about their daily chores and take care of their families, thus reducing the number of orphans within the community.
FIOH - USA would like to sponsor many more individuals through this program as the need is great. At this time we only have funds to sponsor between 25 to 30 people. If you would like to help in this effort, please contact us.
