Future In Our Hands- Kenya had been in desperate need of an administrative office and accommodations for local and overseas volunteer staff to stay and conduct the business of the organization. Until 12/31/13 they used a rental office/apartment in a building owned by Maseno University. The rent had continuously increased over the last ten years making the expensive payments very difficult. The organization is required by the Kenyan government to have an office.
FIOH-USA had been discussing with Paul Odihambo, the coordinator of FIOH-Kenya, the need for funding for an office/volunteer housing unit on the one-quarter acre of land that had recently been donated to FIOH-Kenya in the village of Usoma.
The new office/volunteer house is built in Usoma Village where the coordinator and many of the sponsored students live. It is staffed by a part time office assistant and someone is always available to handle business. There are minimal costs for upkeep and just electricity and water bills to be paid.
FIOH-USA and FIOH-Kenya work closely together. The organization would benefit greatly if volunteers from the USA would come and work with FIOH-K on mutual projects. Now any potential volunteers have a safe place to stay and are very welcome
Generous donors have enabled FIOH-USA to raise the $21,000 needed to complete this project. THANK YOU!!
