Helping People Receive Medication for HIV/AIDS in Africa
The mission of Future in Our Hands-USA is to help improve the quality of life for people in East Africa, specifically in Kenya and Zambia. One way in which we accomplish this is through providing transportation to hospitals so people can acquire their HIV/AIDS medication and treatment. This is important because without help these people are often unable to get the treatment they require.
The HIV/AIDS Epidemic in East Africa
Although the number of new HIV/AIDS cases is declining, there are still a large number of people living in rural areas in East Africa that need help getting to hospitals to receive their HIV/AIDS medication. Sub-Saharan Africa is the most affected region when it comes to HIV/AIDS, with the area representing 69% (23.5 million people) of the global HIV/AIDS population. In addition, an astonishing 90% of children who contracted HIV in 2011 live in Sub-Saharan Africa. With your help, we can provide those affected in East Africa with the means to acquire the proper HIV/AIDS medication. (Source: UNAIDS, 2012)
What Can be Done?
With your donations, Future in Our Hands-USA is able to provide transportation to clinics to those in need of HIV/AIDS medication in rural Kisumu Kenya. Although the government provides the treatment free of cost, many of these clinics are several miles away and out of reach. Your donations to Future in Our Hands-USA provides an average of $10 a month to fund transportation, allowing individuals access to treatment. Currently, we are only able to provide assistance to 42 individuals in need. We need your help in increasing this number and expanding our reach.
